Location
The
Coconuts is situated approximately 5 kms from Innisfail
and is within "The Great Green Way", an area
of outstanding natural beauty spanning from Townsville
to Cairns in Tropical North Queensland, Australia.
The
area includes two World Heritage listings. These being
the Wet Tropics Rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef.
There
are over 25 tropical islands off our coast, over 12
mainland National Parks, and we are the closest mainland
access in Queensland to the Outer Barrier Reef.
The
Great
Green Way encompasses the four shires of Hinchinbrook,
Cardwell, Johnstone, and Cairns City.
There
is lots to see and do in the region including:
Innisfail
in the Johnstone Shire (population 20,000, town of 8,000)
is positioned in the heart of the Cassowary Coast and
is situated 88km south of Cairns and 260km north of Townsville.
Both those cities have direct air access to overseas
markets.
Innisfail
has all services and all major supermarket chains are
represented in the town. It is also the designated rail
freight terminal
south of Cairns.
The
region, first settled more than 110 years ago, developed
as a sugar growing and timber producing area. Sugar is
still the economic base, with total sugar revenue having
a gross value in excess of $87 million, and total cane
revenue valued at $55 million.
Other
major produce and industry from the area include bananas,
papaya, aquaculture,
fishing and more increasingly tourism as the secret
of this tropical wonderland is revealed.
